Halloween 07

The approaching holiday reminded me that I should share what I did last year.

I made 2 costumes last year. I was Hello Kitty and my friend Tasha was the Morton Salt Girl.

I made EVERYTHING on my costume! I can't even remember how I pulled this off. I made a bright pink jumper, white fleece sleeves and legs, and the head piece with bow. It was awesome. 

I made her dress from scratch. I can't remember the pattern number, but we did a couple modifications with the bust and sleeves. 

Hopefully, I will be doing some more costumes this year. There's one that has been in the planning stages for a month now. Only time will tell if it will actually happen. 

Stuff from the Picnic

These are some of the half-aprons that I sold at the Picnic in the Park on September 13th. They aren't the best pictures, but they will have to do since I completely forgot my camera on that day and didn't want to use too much of Sara's memory card. (Thanks Sara!). 

I am extremely proud of all of these. I will most likely make more for the MECA Holiday Art sale, since they went over so well. In that event, there should be some more photos forthcoming. 

But for now, bask in their beauty. BASK I SAY!

In order from top to bottom:

BIRDSEED: That is the name of the fabric. A beautiful turquoise with pretty little birds on it. The backing and ties are orange. There are 2 brown bird pockets and a lovely little brown ruffle. This apron came together wonderfully and my favourite part is the ruffle, which is a much crisper pleat than I usually do.

DAY OF THE DEAD: The picture doesn't do this apron justice. There is a metallic gold in the fabric, which I brought out in the pocket detail. The pockets are hand-embroidered, and I used a thread or 2 of metallic gold embroidery floss on the flower to really tie it all together. The backing and ties are black, and the ruffle is bright pink. 

CHERRY PIE: This apron is just so sugary and I am very much in love with it. The fabric is this subtle pink-on-pink grid with cherries. This apron features pie appliqued tie pockets in a dark pink which matches the backing and ties. The white eyelet ruffle pushes it over the edge in the best way. 

LAST SUPPER: Sweet Jesus (pun intended), I love this fabric.  My main goals in this apron were to let the fabric speak for itself (not overpower it with too many details), and to not be offensively sacrilegious. The pockets are hand embroidered, "BREAK" on one pocket and "BREAD" on the other in tattoo text. The ruffle is a small eyelet lace that I dyed with tea to match the tones in the fabric. 

SKULLFINITY: This apron combines the hardness of the skulls, with their wonderful mandibles, with the softness of the tie pockets and the large eyelet lace ruffle. The challange here was super-feminizing without going over the top (i.e. earlier ideas involved multiple layers of the eyelet lace. This was both too much and too bulky.) The ties and backing are black on this one.

These are my most beautiful children. I want to get some good photos of the ones that didn't sell up, though.

Perhaps they will outshine even these......
